Multiple problems were being experienced around the school due to tree roots. A full CCTV survey revealed the extent of the infestation and it was agreed that CIPP lining after root cutting would be the least disruptive option. What we did not expect was the severity or strength of the growth.

The pictures above show a single section of matted root 150mm diameter and 6 metres long that was removed. Using CCTV from upstream we located the main point of th eingress from which the roots then grew downstream with the flow. By excavation at that point and tying a rope round the exposed mass root, we dragged it out in a single piece.

This was not the only heavy infestation. Another of the pictures shows an engineer holding up a single tap root removed from another drain and no before you ask, he is not very small, he is well over six foot tall! Some root!

Once all the root had been removed from the drains, heat cure Epoxy resin CIPP liners were installed in long runs and Polyurethane resin liners in short sections. These will prevent further intrusion and save having to excavate and replace the entire system
